Covering history: 1979-1987
Landesbrück, 1987 passed away
It was by no means the done
thing in the 1970ies that the progeny of private stallions
were stationed at the Celle state stud. Today this situation
is dealt with more flexibly and less bureaucratically, however
Bolero was certainly an exception in this respect. He derived
from Black Sky xx who at the private studfarm of Schmidt-Ankum
always stood somewhat in the shadow of Cardinal xx. The Back
Sky xx progeny were always highly proper and very rideable
dressage horses, but they could not jump. Black Sky xx passed
on this great talent for dressage with the concommitant lack
of jumping ability to his approved sons Baron and Bolero too.
Bolero’s blood relationship contradicted the long standing
prohibition by the studbook committee of mating a mare out
of a thoroughbred with a thoroughbred. The damline has ist
roots in the area of the Achim station between Verden and
Bremen and is based on the mare Atlastaube (by-Athos-Fliegerstern).
This bloodline also produced the popular sires Grenadier (Celle
state stallion) and Hitchcok (Celle and Radegast state studs)
as well as Winner (private stallion Hanover). The exceedingly
noble Bolero was stationed in Landesbrück following his stallion
performance test ,which he absolved as sixth of an age class
of 30. The “breeding ground” had been well prepared through
daughters of Grande and Duellant, Bolero’s seeds merely had
to germinate and bloom. And how they bloomed! Bolero was a
foundation sire of the very top class. He always transmitted
himself, passing on endless nobility, rhythmic motions and
fequently also his red-golden chestnut colour. His progeny
for many years dominated events at the federal championships,
including Bini Bo (Vechta 1987) and Boccaccio (Schenefeld
1988). He also provided countless top Verden auction horses
and numerous sons were approved, such as the champion stallions
Brentano II and Buenos Aires. Other successful progeny were
Brentano I, Bismarck, Baryshnikov and Bon Bonaparte. In dressage
competition sport large numbers of his progeny apart from
Beauvalais and Bersalino (both with Heike Kemmer) Bini Bo
(Inge Schmezer) attained high honours. The sudden cardiac
death of Bolero in the autumn of 1987 was a shock for the
breeding fraternity and the leadership of the Hanoverian Association,
as Bolero only reached the age of twelve.
