Covering history: 1953
to 1969 Hohnstorf, put down in 1969
The most important Abendfrieden
xx son in German warm blood breeding, was most certainly Pik
As xx, who covered only at Hohnstorf in the Lüneburg district
and provided this station with a considerable fresh impetus.
Whenever the dark tan stallion was presented on the Elbe dyke
for stallion shows he captivated by his self-assured appearance,
presenting himself at his fullest size and fascinating by
his supple movements. Earlier on, when one observed hirn being
prepared in the stables, he would seem more like a little
“tom cat“ and one would tend to orientate oneself rnainly
by bis big eyes. He was not particularly impressive in the
formation of the saddle Position either. Breeders and interested
buyers however soon recognised that he was a genetic transmitter
with a lot of potential. One component for his success evidently
also lies in the damline: The bloodline of Postenkette xx
i.a. also produced the top hereditary transmitters Pindar
xx (private stallion Trakehner breed), Parenzo xx (Warendorf
state stallion), Pernod xx (private stallion Westphalia) who
became well-known under Willi Schultheis, the full Pik As
xx brother Perser (Celle state stud) and Playmate (Warendof
state stallion), who without exception matured to become renown
sires in their areas of application. Even though he transmitted
absolutely good motions, bis principal quality was that of
a sire of showjumpers. The grey Pesgö with Germany‘s longstanding
“Amazon No 1", Helga Köhler, as well as Porta Westfalica
/Hartwig Steenken and numerous others always displayed absolute
top dass on the course. Pik Ass xx did not produce male progeny
to carry on the hine for a considerable period of tirne. Qnly
bis later crops produced a number of approved sons. The private
stalhion Pikant only covered for a year and heft the useful
hereditary transmitter Pascha. Great performance potential
particularly in jumping was inbom to Pikör‘ s progeny who
unfortunately did not produce any male successors either.
The task of upholding the line therefore fell upon Pik König,
a top hereditary transmitter of showjurnpers, some of whose
progeny managed to jump up into the higher spheres of dressage
sport. The full-brothers Pik Bube 1 and II have always been
characterised by especially versatile heredity and it is their
progeny in whom high hopes have been vested for the continuation
of the bloodline in the male lineage. Pik Bube 1 who was promoted
by the memorable Herbert Rehbein, won eleven starts out of
twelve in advanced competitions within one season alone. Of
his numerous stallion sons, Piaster who is stationed in Bavaria
is particularly prominent. Piaster is also a sire of extraordinary
diversity, who has performed well in Southern Germany. Pik
Bube II was always overshadowed somewhat by bis brother, but
with Pik L, the Hanoverian state champion, he produced a noteworthy
stalhion son. The Pik Ass xx blood in general and here perhaps
the Pik König daughters and granddaughters in particular,
have often been the basis for the success of the stallions
Donnerwetter resp. his son Donnerhall. This formula for breeding
success, of a quality that is rarely seen, has been carried
out successfully time and again. When one considers Pik As
xx‘ s heredity, cornparisons can be rnade with another thoroughbred
Der Löwe xx as both bad numerous flaws, but over the generations
they managed to assert themselves.
